Stratton Summer Activities

Stratton may be known for its snow sports, but that doesn't mean that summer isn't great on the mountain. Vermont summers are spectacular, with fresh mountain air, flowing rivers, and beautiful green trees.

Hike to a swimming hole, head over and check out the Long Trail, or even go for a stroll on the famous Appalachian Trail! The rivers have plenty to offer, too, from swimming to canoeing to kayaking. And Stratton Mountain's fabled ski runs become a mountain biker's wonderland after the snow melts.

Appalachian Trail and Long Trail
The Long Trail, which spans the length of Vermont, was dreamed up by James P. Taylor in 1909 while he stood on the Stratton Mountain Summit! Twelve years later, the Stratton Summit was also where Benton Mackaye decided to take things up a notch and create a trail that spanned from Maine to Georgia. Today, both the Long Trail and the Appalachian Trail run over Stratton Mountain, and hiking a bit of these fabled trails can be a magical and wonderful experience.
